Easy and Affordable DIY Wall Decor Ideas

The easiest way to make a house feel more like a home is by adding those touches to the interiors that feel special to you. Decorating a room’s walls are an easy way to add interest to a room without having to take up any precious floor space but sometimes all that space to decorate can make people feel a little stumped or overwhelmed so I compiled a few of my favorite DIY ideas that any one could handle!

Left: Stack full length mirrors (about $5 at Target) to create height in a room and give the illusion that you are a pro interior designer! Right: Find some old frames at a flea market or garage sales and paint various colors, stack them on top of each other in an interesting pattern.
Left: Arrange colorful platters or plates in a whimsical pattern (tip: scour Anthropologie’s sale’s room for cheap vintage-inspired plates). Right: Attach Perrier bottles (or other colored bottles) to a rustic wood board for a great twist on a traditional vase
Left: Can you believe these flowers are made of cupcake liners, doilies, and pushpins? Well they are! The flat doilies with the textured liners make for the perfect mix of 2D and 3D objects. Right: Look familiar? That’s a rubber door mat from the dollar store simply painted white then scuffed for a rustic “ironwork” wall décor!
Left: Ceiling medallions are not just for Versailles’s chandeliers, you can paint and hang them different colors (or various shades of one color like in the picture) to create expensive looking 3D artwork. Medallions can be purchased at any home improvement store or Amazon for around $20 (prices depend on size and detailing). Right: Cut vintage suitcases in half and use for shelving that is guaranteed to be a statement piece guests will “ooo” and “ahh” over!
Left: Paint your walls with a mat wall paint then use the same shade of paint in the gloss to paint a large scaled pattern onto the walls. Right: This is similar to the picture on the left but instead of using paint, you can create a pattern using metallic tape (found at Home Depot). This is great for renters since you can just pull it off later!

Well there you have it, some easy and affordable DIY ideas that will jazz those boring walls instantly! For instructions, sources, and more ideas visit my DIY Wall Decor Pinterest Board. Do you have any other ideas on how to decorate your walls? If so, I want to hear about it!

    1. No the floating shelves I used have a lip on the front that keep the frames from sliding off the edge. Which is great because it makes it easy to change the frames around and I don’t have 10 extra holes in the wall 🙂
